The Intelligent Agent (IA) feature in Brightspace is a powerful tool to manage important communications to students. It allows you to compose emails that will be automatically sent to students who meet specific criteria you've set.

Some example uses:

• Midway in the semester, you can have it send an email to all students whose grades are below, say, a C, inviting them to office hours to talk about their options.
• Set up an IA to scan an assignment's submissions and email reminders to students who haven't completed it yet.
• In a large class where there might be multiple changes in the roster during the add/drop period, IAs can scan the class list every day and send a welcome message to newly enrolled students.

Additionally, you can personalize these communications with replace strings, such as “Dear {FirstName},” and the emails will be rendered with each recipient’s name (e.g. “Dear Emily,”) who meets the criteria to receive that email. (Read more about replace strings.)
