Logs to Lumber. Oil painting by Kathleen Kolb, 2009, with accompanying text from 2009–2010.
The forestry, logging and wood products industries contribute over $830 million dollars to the Vermont economy and provide over 6100 jobs annually (2011 estimates). Kolb painted this scene from Lincoln, Vermont, capturing—in her words—the “clear, bright light” of springtime in Vermont.
This oil painting is on view in Bailey/Howe Library for the duration of the Working the Landscape exhibit, on loan from the Vermont Folklife Center in Middlebury, Vermont.
